ACM Album of the Year Nominee And New Artist Winners Announced

March 7, 2009

After adjusting the qualification requirements for the category, the Academy of Country Music has finally announced their list of album of the year nominees.

The following albums have been nominated for what is considered one of the most prideful awards in the program:

  • That Lonesome Song by Jamey Johnson
  • Carnival Ride by Carrie Underwood
  • Back When I Knew It All by Montgomery Gentry
  • Fearless by Taylor Swift
  • Troubadour by George Strait

George had previously claimed victory in the CMA and Grammy categories for country album of the year. If he scores this win from the ACM, he will be the first artists sense the Dixie Chicks’ album Fly to win all three.

In addition to the Album of the year nominees, the winners for the New Artist Award Categories, New Female Artist, New Male Artist, and New Group, have also been announced. Fans were allowed to vote on for who they wanted to win the award. The same format will once again be applied to the Entertainer of the Year Award, an award went to Kenny Chesney by fan voting last year.

The following will take home the trophy for their respective categories:

  • New Male Artist: Jake Owen
  • New Female Artist: Julianne Hough
  • New Group: The Zac Brown Band

Congrats to these three winners and be sure to tune in April 5th for the award show to see the other winners get revealed.
