Single Review: “Gettin’ You Home” by Chris Young
Chris Young is one of the few last people standing from the nightmarish reality show that is Nashville Star. He claimed victory and, like other winners, still has yet to make a mark on the genre, but he is probably one of the most deserving and under-rated acts from the show. Following up his impressive single “Voices”, Chris gets a little more romantic, but still avoids the slow stuff to keep it interesting.
“Gettin’ You Home”, also known as “The Black Dress Song”, has Chris taking his lovely lady to a nice restaurant and on a romantic date, however the only thing that is on his mind is getting his girl home and having a romantic getaway right there in the heart of their bedroom. The song is careful to avoid any extreme cliches and, save for the black dress hitting the floor, it’s actually pretty clean and respectable. Chris’s delivery is also flawless as well which makes this song catchy, enjoyable, and quite memorable in the long run.
I don’t know if radio will jump at this one, it’s only real downfall being that it is pretty generic in relation to everything else out there, but a combination of smart and well planned writing and a well established performance by Young make this song an enjoyable and attractive listen all the same. It stands out on its own pretty well, but it might fall short when mixed in with others of its kind. Is it too simple? You be the judge.
