2009 Country Central Awards Winners

February 1, 2009

Well the despite a little bit of controversy over the voting process the first Country Central Awards was a surprising and overwhelming success. Thank you to all who helped advertise this and support it. So now voting is closed, everything’s tallied and it’s time to present the winners.

Some of the winners were quite a surprise. Carrie Underwood, however, was not. She dominated all four categories she was in, Female Artist, song, Video and Favorite Artist. She is also the only multiple nominee to take home more than one award. Brad Paisley was her only competition, showing a little bit of strength a little to late in the three categories he was in with Carrie. However, it’s not a total loss for Brad because he took away the male vocalist award despite a strong showing by Keith Urban’s fans. Little Big Town made a surprising showing to win Group while Josh Turner’s duet with Trisha Yearwood surprisingly took home the Favorite Duet award. Sugarland lost out to both Group/Duo and Artist, but they managed to take down second ranking Jamey Johnson for Favorite Album and Jamey walks away with Favorite New Artist, congrats to them.

So here is the full list of winners and the percentage that they won buy over the three other nominees in each category.

just a suggestion…next time maybe have people email their votes to you or something, because their not really fair awards if people can vote over and over so easily. they would be more honest that way

Actually Jack I was going to try the e-mail thing, however last time I did something like this, for a former venture of mine before the blog, that resulted in minumum response.

I found that people were either to lazy or didn’t care enoguh to take the time to send the e-mails in. So I decided to use polls and the way i did it was an experiment. Next year I will not be limiting the polls. I made them unlimited this year to promote compatition which only worked out for certain artists. All in all however I have a confident feeling that the winners would have been the same this time around requardless going by early votes before everyone really caught on.

But still, it’s not a fair distribution and makes the whole awards off. Why would you want Carrie Underwood to win everything she was nominated for by such a large margin. And you can’t say how it would have turned out, because you didn’t see it since it was unlimited, so that is a silly argument. I’m just saying this because you have a really nice site that I like a lot, and these awards don’t match the quality of the rest of it when they are done like this.

I do appreciate the the feedback Jack and the support of the site.

I have to admit it was a risky way to pull it off, next year, should I do it, it will be done differently. I really did not expect Underwood to gain a backing from an entire fan forum her either, that was the winning move for her. I expected Keith or Brad, or even Kenny to get the same backing, but they didn’t. Live and learn I guess.

I love Carrie but I’m not a rabid fan like some of my fellow Carrie fans are. I didn’t vote for her for album, video or song. I try to be honest when I vote so this overwhelming win was embarrassing to me as a Carrie fan for it was overkill. Perhaps have it where they can only vote once if that’s possible.
