Single Review: “Telluride” by Josh Gracin
As country music’s original American Idol alumni, Josh has has a faulting career lately stemming from the long stretch of time it took for his label to finally release his sophomore project. The newest single from said project is his personal take of a song formerly recorded by Tim McGraw, “Telluride”.
It doesn’t really matter who sings this song, “Telluride” is a very enjoyable piece of work. Containing a catchy verse, a toe taping melody and an impressively creative storyline that draws from the concept of a one time fling in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, this song has the potential to make itself work. The only way to criticize it is to compare and contrast Josh’s version from Tim McGraw’s.
In my personal opinion, Josh did it better. Tim McGraw’s version was quite good, an in fact more of a solid country song than Josh’s, however Tim’s performance was less organized and consistent. Josh’s newer version is much better put together and more effective than Tim’s. This song may not be the song to help Josh recover, but it’s the best he’s got right now and I’m excited to see it hit radio. The song itself is so well portrayed through its writing that it really makes the listener want to experience the enjoyment and beauty that Telluride, Colorado has to offer.
Grade: B+
