Single Review: “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” by Darius Rucker

November 5, 2008

For his second single from his debut country album, Darius Rucker follows up a #1 single with a more powerful tune targeting the relationship between a father and a daughter from birth, to marriage.

Although the message is a little cliche, Darius makes up for it with a great rendition with some great emotion and sincerity in his experienced voice. The song progresses through different parts of life as a father watches his young daughter grow up and realizes that it won’t be that way for too long. What makes the song so powerful is the father’s understanding that the moment won’t last forever and soon she’ll be moving on and grown up. Mix this sentiment with Darius’ powerful performance and that’s what makes this song. Without these aspects this song wouldn’t have stood a chance in a world where “I Loved Her First” dominates the daughter/father ballads. This may not necessarily secure Darius as a consistent force in the genre, but it certainly says something for him being able to tackle a song like this.

I really like this song. It reminds me of my dad and me. His voice is amazing. He will be around for a long time!! Country music suits him. The whole CD is good. It is worth the trip to Wally World.
