Single Review: “Anything Goes” by Randy Houser

September 20, 2008

I had to follow the hype. Everyone keeps talking about this Randy Houser who’s on Letterman and this and that and has this powerful song out. So I looked into it and I must say…damn.

All year I have heard songs that blow me away, mostly fast and entertaining or very powerful. This song is a whole new level of artistic expression from the rest of the genre today and the rest of the songs I have heard this year.

“Anything Goes” has Randy as a desperate and distraught man who is facing his woman’s walking away. So he finds himself in a bar trying to eliminate his pain. As he acts he realizes that when everything in his life is gone, anything goes because she’s not there to stop him. his ex was his life, his reason for living, and with her gone he sees no reason to act like the respectable man she loved. Whether you are a traditionalist, modernist, or neo-traditionalist, this song deserves a listen from every fan on every corner of the genre. A must hear musical event!!

Grade: A+

I’ve been loving the song, I’m really hoping with the fall season starting that it doesn’t get lost in the clutter of single releases. It’s reacently cracked the top 30 but it’s been having trouble getting there. At this point it’ll either be a verty slow climb to the top, or start falling off the chart in a few more weeks. If he was on a lable with a stronger promotional team he would probably already be in the top 20.

Just heard it for the first time and it really got my attention. Had to search the net to see who sang it and found this. Anyone who has been left heartbroken can relate.

I heard this song for the first time on my way to work a few weeks ago. I have been trying to find out who sang it ever since. Luckily, today KSOP in SLC played it again. This is great song and deserves more airtime.
