Single Review: “Country Boy” by Alan Jackson

September 15, 2008

Alan’s third single from his Good Time album is an attempt to take advantage of today’s brand of country music and possibly put Alan’s own swing to it. Alan take several stereotypes of a typical garden-variety country boy and puts them into one song as he attempts to woo a woman.

While this song provides full right to Alan’s traditional twang sound, it doesn’t do justice to him as an artist. Alan has made a name for himself as a leader in the neo-traditional movement of the genre, however this song is very different from his former attempts in that it sounds just like that, an “attempt”. What he tries to do is meld contemporary style wordplay into a neo-traditional sound which makes for good fun but a less that respectable showing for Alan.
