Single Review: “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” by Jake Owen

August 26, 2008

Jake threw a curve-ball to radio when he shifted from “Yee Haw” to two powerful slow tunes that helped to show off his intense ability to carry a note and a tear at the same time. Instead of incorporating his emotional intensity, Jake once again serves up his sultry vocals with a more casual and countrified feeling to it.

However, it takes more than an attractive performance to add quality to a song. Jake may make this song attractive and actually easy to get hooked to, but it leaves little to the imagination as it become quite obvious that he can love his girl under any condition well into the first verse. Thus Jake pulls off only a mildly attractive lyric with a surprisingly effective vocal performance that mixes just well enough.

Grade: B

ultimatly this falls into the same category as Blake Shelton’s new one, Nice voice, but everything else is boring.
