Single Review: “Bob That Head” by Rascal Flatts

June 18, 2008

Despite common critical cracks and speculation, Rascal Flatts have become one of the most successful acts in the modern country music world taking their place as the Brooks & Dunn of country music groups. After a string of emotional ballads from their latest project, Stills Feels Good, the boys return to their headbanging beats…literally. The Flatts trio’s latest offering is a mix of country, pop and rock that literally inspires listeners to bob their heads to the sound of the radio.

It would be no surprise to say that this is an obvious fan favorite at their concerts and a popular driving tune that is another timely release for the summertime rush. However, this song should have never hit the airwaves. Yes it works in concert or if you’re just enjoying yourself at a party or club, but as a radio single this song fails to shine over anything these boys have accomplished so far and comes off as both immature and a little corny. It also lacks pretty much any country feel at all. So while Rascal Flatts continue to score their hits, they do so with some of their least impressive work thus far. This one acts as a decent album filer and a great live song, but not a radio single. If they wanted to go with a more upbeat song then “Still Feels Good” or “No Reins” would have sufficed.

Grade: F

I agree, I love Rascal Flatts, but this song is more of a filler. It would have been great if “No Reins” was their next single instead. I love that song!

I heard this song for the first time this morning on my way to work and almost lost my breakfast. My first thought was put a little more bass in it and send that s#*! to the hip hop station or take the acustic guitar out and leave the screaming lead guitar and send it over to the rock station to play. I don’t care where you send it just keep it off my country station.
