Single Review: “For You” by James Otto

June 9, 2008

After much consideration James Otto, probably the most powerful member of the Muzic Mafia right now, has decided to swap out “Ain’t Gonna Stop” for a more sentimental second single from his sophomore album. While James has already shared his talent for soulful, romantic vocal renditions, he shifts gears to show a much more vulnerable and distraught side to his voice as well as tackling a new look at the hardship of moving on from a love you never wanted to end.

James is put in the position of being in love with a girl who wants him to move on after their relationship has ended. He reveals that of all the things he is willing to do for her, that is the one thing he will not. This is combined with some very powerful and well performed vocals complimented by equally sentimental and delicate instrumental compositions to create one of the most respectable performances the genre has seen from an artist this new in a while. If James keeps this up he just may be around for quite a while.
