News: John Rich Becomes Political….Again!

June 4, 2008

In the wake of Barack Obama’s clinching the Democratic election, it is time for artists and listeners alike to start considering who will take their vote in the race for the presidency. One artist who has already made his very open decision is John Rich, known for his contributions to countless radio hits, his partnership with Big Kenny as the duo Big & Rich, and his very open and direct comments towards many political issues over the past year, including gay marriage. featureJohn had the opportunity to meet another significant John in the political world very recently, John McCain, who is now the presidential Republican nominee. Rich assisted McCain in a campaign while visiting the famous Ryman Auditorium and, in the process, took advantage of the opportunity to shoot down common speculation that the democratic candidate Barack Obama had the younger crowd on his side. John, 34, considers himself a part of the young crowd and approached this stereotypical conclusion in an interview with GAC stating:

Well, guess what, I’m pretty young, and I’m not voting for him. I’m voting for Sen. John McCain.”

With little to say, John has taken much more care commenting on this than his former political beliefs. His past attempts to speak his mind and share his opinions have left him criticized and bashed. This time around John has avoided putting down those who are voting for Obama, and instead insisted upon the public in a smooth fashion that the age boundaries have nothing to do with the outcome of this years presidential race. Instead he has tried to prove that parties and personal beliefs may be more of a factor, shown through his continuous republican views and his personal vendettas with the media in relation to his support for McCain. Despite his past controversial stand-offs with his opposing public, John just may have a good point this time around. Only time will tell if John Rich, country music’s resident political spokesman, has made the right choice with his vote and the right call with the public.

I wonder if John Rich is going to make his political sentiments known on the premiere of Nashville Star this Monday June 9 at 9/8c on NBC? Does anyone think he’ll be vocal about it?
