Single Review: “You Look Good In My Shirt” by Keith Urban

May 29, 2008

Keith has chosen to go with a single from his previous American sophomore album Golden Road. Signified through karaoke disks and fan responses at his live shows, this is among the most popular tracks from the album and, up until now, was the biggest non-release song to Urban’s record as far as popularity. So, with such a following, it is actually logical that Keith would bring this upbeat and romantic song to country radio to share it with the public once and for all.

Keith shows off his guitar skills and his upbeat personality as he sings about a past relationship coming back together and still as strong as ever. He could have gone with more powerful and sentimental singles like “You’re Not My God”, also on Golden Road, or “Nobody Drinks Alone”, on Be Here, but instead Keith keeps it cool and fun, a respectful and brave choice when releasing a song from a former work instead of an upcoming project. On top of all this, the song brings rebirth to the classical feel of Keith’s music and brings him back to the sound that his fans fell in love with in the first place. It’s a bold and risky decision to release a single from a former work, seen through the failure of Tracy Byrd’s “Tiny Town” and the sluggish success of Alan Jackson’s “A Woman’s Love”, but as far as choosing the correct song to do this with Keith hit it right on the money. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this on whatever Keith’s next project is.

Grade: A+
