Single Review: “All I Want To Do” by Sugarland

May 26, 2008

The latest offering from country super duo Sugarland has finally hit the airwaves. The song was first reveled on the ACM awards which included a very entertaining performance to go along with it. No doubt in my mind this song was released under the influence of the arrival of warmer and more enjoyable weather because it contains a fun and upbeat summertime feel.

Where this song is flawed is that it is too safe. It will become a huge hit because of the timing and the fact that it is another enjoyable offering from the duo, but that’s just it…it takes advantage of every aspect of a hit except perfection in the song itself. It is too family friendly, with the ooo’s in the background of the chorus adding a little bit of child-like taste to it, and the fact that when compared to the other works on and off the albums that Jennifer has done this is by far her safest performance yet. It’s a fun and catchy song that is easy to fall in love with and will very likely keep the duo at the top of their game, but it lacks any real top quality features other than Jennifer’s flawless vocals and the great beat that accompanies it.
