Single Review: “A Different Breed” by Carter’s Chord

May 11, 2008

Toby Keith continues to push his newest band Carter’s Chords towards a hopeful success at radio. After two coinciding singles that failed to attract much attention, “When We Get There” and “Young Love”, this new female trio release a solid single that brings out a little more of their influences than the other two releases.

This song has a mid-tempo beat reminiscent of some of the older works from the late 80’s, early 90’s. On that note it starts off with a sense of being a little too old fashioned. This song has the girls, in their wonderful harmonies, addressing a man who is used to the fancy smooth lifestyle kind of girls. This song serves as a warning to this man that the girl he is trying to pick up, the girl these three beauties are singing through, it a totally different breed of girl. It also has her wondering why he would be interested in her considering his consistency with the high class types that she is not.

The girls introduce a mixture of older and newer sounds in this single that actually took me by surprise and made me feel, for the first time, that these girls are more than just another band trying to make the cut. I’m not to fond of this song, but it deffinatly shows a little bit to the girls credit, not the most they can offer, but still it’s something.

Grade: C+
