Single Review: “No Love Songs” by Chris Cagle

April 23, 2008

This is one of my personal favorites off of Chris’s latest album. He uses a combination of talking and singing to pull off a story about him meeting a man who wants the band to avoid love songs and play him anything else because he just lost his girl. It’s as simple as that.

Thus this is where I have a problem. Unlike George Strait with “Give it Away” or Alan Jackson’s “Talkin’ Song Repair Blues” Chris hasn’t compiled enough full on support for a song like this to reach complete popularity. Sure the fact that singing is included adds a lot to it, but I’m afraid of how this one will fair on radio. All in all it’s a fun country party song that could go over well given the opportunity. However, compared to Chris’s former works and the material he’s up against these days, I’d say that this is pretty average. Not a #1 hit, but possibly a top 10 given the right audience.
